No verdict reached over babys manslaughter verdict

Karen Miller, 37, was charged with second-degree murder last month in the death of her son, Brandon Johnson. Brandon was found unresponsive at a home in Greenford Township, near Schenectady County.

The teen suffered a severe head injury, multiple fractures to his skull and died three days later. He was found under a mattress in his room.

His parents did not want to press charges, and Brandon's parents also were charged with manslaughter in the case.

When the victim's mother walked into the courtroom, a detective asked, "Can I introduce you to your child?"

Brandon's parents argued back and forth before they were led out on to a waiting police van, according to the Daily Democrat. Karen Miller was then led out of the courtroom and back to the prosecutor's office. She will not be returning to court until the state attorney general's office completes an autopsy of her son's body and the case is returned to the district attorney's office, a spokesman for district attorney John P. DiStefano said in an email to the Times.

"I was disappointed that our investigation was not pursued further by the district attorney," DiStefano said in the email. "We are still seeking additional evidence regarding the crime scene. We would ask the court to allow us to continue collecting other evidence for any additional witnesses who may have additional information that can help us with the investigation and to prosecute anyone whose conduct contributed to the victim's death."

The family of Brandon told CBS New York that they were satisfied with the results of the investigation and wanted to focus on the criminal charges against them. Karen Miller remains in the county jail on $5,000 bail, her son's father told WBEN-TV.

"The police got what they needed for this one," the boy's father said. "They handled this well. The charges against Karen Miller are ridiculous."
